Mayor toplay Sousa at CMS fund-raising event

A fund-raiser concert will feature local children playing with adult musicians from the community, Tuesday. Among Charleston’s finest that are expected to be rolling up their sleeves to perform in the festivities, is Charleston Mayor Dan Cougill.

The presentation entitled “Band Showcase,” will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m., in the Charleston Middle School gymnasium, 920 Smith Drive, located north of Charleston High School.

“The event is being sponsored by the school’s music department in an attempt to raise money for band equipment and uniforms,” said Ellen Wolcott, who is a volunteer for the event.

Performing will be a concert band, a jazz band and a pop band featuring local adult musicians. Cougill is expected to play in the performance of John Phillip Sousa’s, “The Washington Post March.” The event is expected to last about one hour.

The ticket price is $3.50 for adults and $1.50 for children ages 1-5. Refreshments will be served.
