Diversity concert to kick off season

Eastern’s Wind Ensemble will present its most diverse concert of the year Sunday.

The concert, which will be the first concert of the season, will begin at 3 p.m. in the Dvorak Concert Hall.

Lawrence Stoffel, director of bands, said. All the selected pieces will have a symphonic quality to them.

“It will be band music that reaches to a larger audience base,” Stoffel said.

Musical pieces that have been selected include: Leonard Bernstein’s score to the musical “On the Town,” Handel’s “The Royal Fireworks Music,” and “Mars” from Holst’s “The Planets.”

“The music selected comes from text in music classes, similar to a math or English text,” Stoffel said.

“It is tough to choose what songs to perform,” he said.

“The students and myself are extremely excited to perform,” Stoffel said.

“The students have worked hard,” he said. “It should all pay off on Sunday.”

The concert is open to the public. Admission and parking is free.
