Second College of Sciences dean candidate on campus Tuesday

The second of four finalists in Eastern’s search for a new College of Sciences dean will be on campus Tuesday for an open session interview.

Edward L. Kick currently serves as chair of the sociology and anthropology department at Middle Tennessee University in Murfreesboro, Tenn. He worked his way from instructor to professor at the University of Utah from 1978 to 1999, when he took the Middle Tennessee job. Kick started out as an associate instructor at Indiana University in 1976.

Kick holds a Ph.D. in sociology with a minor in international relations and a master’s in sociology, both from IU. He earned his bachelor’s in sociology from the University of Wisconsin at Madison in 1973, and attended Eastern from 1969-1972.

In 1987 and 1988, Kick received the New Zealand Fulbright Lecture and Research Award. Kick was a finalist for the social and behavioral sciences researcher award in 1999. The University of Utah awarded Kick the Superior Teaching Award in 1984, an honor for which he was nominated all of the four previous years.

The search committee will interview Kick at 8:45 a.m Tuesday. The deans and associate deans meet with Kick at 9:30 a.m., and Kick will gather with the chairs, directors and associate directors of the college of sciences.

At 1 p.m. Kick will meet with the College of Sciences dean’s office staff. The university academic councils will meet with Kick at 2 p.m. and and an open session interview will take place at 3:30 p.m. in Booth Library Conference Room 4440.
