Quilter presenting lecture, workshop

An artist currently featured at the Tarble Arts Center is traveling back to Eastern to give a lecture and workshops.

Caryl Bryer Fallert, a quilt artist who is part of the “Companions and Choices: Quilts and Paintings” exhibition, will give her lecture, “Inspiration and the Creative Process” at 7 p.m. Friday in the Tarble Arts Center.

“This is (Fallert’s) first time lecturing at Eastern,” Michael Watts, director of the Tarble Arts Center, said.

Fallert will also host two workshops on Saturday.

“Introduction to Free Motion Machine Quilting” will be from 9 a.m. to noon, Watts said.

During the workshop, Fallert will share her secrets for “managing the quilt sandwich and controlling the stitches,” he said.

Watts also mentioned that “Graduated Crown of Thorns,” Fallert’s second workshop, will take place from 1 to 4 p.m.

In “Graduated Crown of Thorns,” participants will learn to draw and piece a perfect “Crown of Thorns” block, Watts said.

Workshops are open to beginner through experienced quilters, Watts said.

Participation in the workshops is $30 per person and $25 for Tarble or Quiltworks members, co-sponsor of the program.

Fallert is “internationally known” for her award-winning art quilts, Watts said.

Watts also commented that Fallert travels extensively, lecturing and conducting workshops throughout the world.

The workshops are currently full, but interested persons can call the Tarble Arts Center at 581-2787 to be put on a waiting list, Watts said.
