UBneeds concert committee applicants

Anyone interested in helping to bring big concerts to campus is encouraged to join the now-forming University Board Concert Committee, concert coordinator Bud Wierenga said Wednesday.

An informational meeting will take place at 5 p.m. Thursday in the Casey Room of the Martin Luther King Jr. University Union, for those interested.

Interviews for the committee will be held after the informational, with the selected members likely notified later in the evening, Wierenga said.

“I really want to just get everything rolling,” he said.

Wierenga said the committee will be made up of about 10 to 15 people working in marketing, production, tickets, security, band relations and band selection. Some positions may have two people working on them.

“They’re all going to be fun jobs,” he said.

The informational will present what the committee is all about, the process of implementing the proposed concert fee and what the jobs will entail, Wierenga said.

Those interested in positions on the committee will fill out applications during the information part of the meeting and then have a short interview following.

Anyone interested in concerts, marketing, production, planning and public relations can join the committee, Wierenga said.

He noted that even though planning is going on for next year, it should not discourage anyone graduating in May if they would still like to help.

There is not a set time committment for committee members, Wierenga said. All applications received will be kept on file in case vacancies open up.

Wierenga said participation in the committee is a good opportunity and everyone on the committee would receive backstage passes to the concerts.
