A confident and proud King

Jason Guziec, a senior marketing major from Chicago, is proud to represent Eastern Illinois as Homecoming King. He said, “It feels great being here four-and-a-half years and it is almost overwhelming and exciting at the same time.”

Guziec’s sweetest moment was working with the kids at Jefferson Elementary School for Fun Day during Greek Week last year.

He said, “Seeing how the kids appreciated us being there made me realize how easy something like that is to do and the greek system was willing to take part in whatever we had to do to help them out.”

Guziec has been the two-term president and pledge educator for Delta Tau Delta fraternity.

In addition, he has held the community service chair for the Greek Week Steering Committee for two consecutive years. He also has helped plan the Greek Leadership Conference and been involved with Interfraternity Council.

“My favorite position was definitely being president of Delta Tau Delta,” Guziec said. “I got to see how the fraternity worked as a national organization.

“It gave me a chance to lead and meet lots of people on a professional basis.” Guziec said.

He said it gave him a good opportunity to help run an organization.

Guziec says his biggest inspiration has been his older sister.

“She has installed values in me since I was a kid and has a great family life which someday I hope to have, and she is hard-working,” he said.

During Homecoming Week, Guziec said his favorite part is building the float and the parade.

“It’s cool to see the craftmanship in the floats and it’s great to have fun with it,” he said.

Qualities Jason has that help him represent Eastern include being dependable, trustworthy and a go-getter.

Jason plans on graduating in December and finding a job in advertising and possibly will take the Chicago Police Test in January. He plans on living back at home to save up some money.

“It was the proudest moment for our house that I’ve had for our house watching both Jason and Joe win king and prince.” said fraternity brother and junior Industrial Technology major Shaun Burnette.

“Jason was the man responsible for keeping our house together during tough times.”
