Underground bound?

In an effort to bring more students into its doors, the Residence Housing Association is trying to move its Campus Perk program into 7th Street Underground.

“If we do move it, it won’t be a permanent thing,” said RHA President Amy Grammer.

“We want to alternate every other week between the Underground and the basement of Thomas Hall, where it has always been.”

Also by becoming involved with 7th Street Underground, Campus Perk will get several incentives because of the people who work on that program.

“SONOR is going to give us advertisement, and their range allows us to extend farther and reach more people than we could before,” Grammer said.

Campus Perk will still offer free coffee and all of the programs it had before, Grammer said, but it will be able to use the bigger space provided by the Underground to expand some of its current programs.

Caleb Judy, chair of University Board, which operates 7th Street Underground, was optimistic about becoming involved with Campus Perk.

“We know this is a really good program,” Judy said. “That is why we offered to provide all of the equipment for open mic night when they have it because we want to be attached to this program.

“Also, we get to bring programs to the Campus Perk audience because the UB is handling the majority of programs in the 7th Street Underground this year.”

Even though UB will now be involved in the Campus Perk program, all control will still remain with the RHA.

“We are just participants in the RHA’s program,” said Judy. “All of the control and funding still resides with them – we just wanted to help put it on because the students seem to like it.”
