RHA sets its first meeting of the year

The Residence Hall Association will meet for the first time tonight to plan activities for the year and introduce a new committee.

Amy Grammer, RHA president, said the first meeting should go rather smoothly.

“I think the first meeting will be introductions for the most part, and we will review our procedures for the newcomers.”

After introductions, the focus will transfer to the RHA committees and the people that are required to staff them.

“The executive board is already full, but the rest of the committees have positions open for any eligible applicant,” she said.

To be eligible to serve on an RHA committee, all one has to do is live in a residence hall.

The RHA budget will be reviewed and tabled for a week to allow for more thorough investigation by the members.

The members will also address the possibility of moving Campus Perk to 7th Street Underground on Thursday, and having an “open mic nite” coincide with it.

“The Campus Perk is usually held in Thomas Hall in the basement and we would like to still have it there, but on different days than we have it in the Underground so we can move it around campus,” Grammer said.

The RHA has a new committee, Dining Service Committee, that will be established at the meeting.

“Basically, what the new committee will do is address concerns, suggestions and ideas of any and every kind about Dining Services.

“The students have and bring their information to us. After we hear what they have to say, we will decide how to proceed.”

“It seems to me that this committee will be important to the students, because every student in the residence halls can say something about dining service,” Grammer said.

The RHA meeting takes place in Weller Hall at 5 p.m. today.
