RSO Council moves weekly meetings to Tuesday nights

Because of scheduling conflicts and lack of attendance, the Recognized Student Organization Council has moved its regular Monday night meetings to Tuesday nights at 7 p.m. in Lumpkin Hall.

Ronnie Deedrick, student relations chair, said it was in the best interests of everyone concerned to move the meetings.

“We had people on the senate who benefit from the Tuesday night time, and there are many RSOs who hold meetings on Monday nights, which makes them unable to attend even if they want to be there,” Deedrick said. “Hopefully, we will be able to raise attendance by meeting on a different night.”

RSO Council serves as a forum for all RSOs to meet to discuss university policy, to register comments and complaints and to help people stay informed about the activities of other groups in the Eastern community.

“It really is a great opportunity to get together with other organizations on campus and see what everyone is up to,” said Joe Robbins, speaker of the Student Senate.

“It is really a worthy way to spend your time because the ideas developed and the information shared really help organizations from running their events together, so members who are involved in more than one group can participate in activities without conflicts,” he said.

Robbins said RSOs should send representatives because he believes having more organizations participate will allow the council to function more efficiently and be more receptive to the needs of the student body.

Deedrick said time spent in RSO council meetings is very beneficial to all of the organizations involved.

“I would like to see as many organizations show up as possible,” he said. “It can help everyone involved and provide insights into university policy that might not have been apparent before the meeting.”
