The Charleston Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 2205 8th Street Thursday morning.

The home was under renovation and unoccupied at the time of the fire.

When CFD arrived on the scene they found a large amount of fire coming from the two-story house. The fire was coming from the roof.

The amount of fire caused the firefighters to need to use the ladder truck to fight the fire. Once the fire was mostly put out firefighters could then enter the structure to put out remaining hot spots, according to a CFD press release.

The fire appears to have started on the second floor.

The home sustained heavy fire and water damages. The fire is currently under investigation.

CFD was assisted Thursday morning by the Mattoon Fire Department, Charleston Police Department, City of Charleston Building Dept. Coles-Moultrie County 911 and Ameren CIPS.
