Panthers soundly defeat Flyers

The Eastern’s women’s tennis team won decisively against the Dayton Flyers Sunday. The Panthers beat the Flyers with a score of 6-1. All the doubles teams and every singles player but one won their matches in Dayton, OH.

The Panthers are 5-7 for the season in singles and 4-2 in doubles. So far, they stand 1-0 on the road and 0-1 at home.

In singles, Janelle Prisner beat Dayton’s Claire McNulty 6-3, 6-2 and Merritt Whitley beat Dayton’s Maureen Stevens 6-0, 7-6.

Amanda Dibbs beat out Daytona’s Erin Filbrant 6-1, 6-1. Shannon Brooks won against Victoria Marchant 6-2, 6-0, and Sephora Boulbahaiem beat Georgia Lammers 6-3, 6-0.

The only singles loss for the Panthers came when Dayton’s Sammi Hornbarger beat Eastern’s Jennifer Kim 6-3, 6-1.

In doubles action, the team of Janelle Prisner and Merritt Whitley beat the team of Daytona’s Sammi Hornbarger and Maureen Stevens, 8-3. The team of Amanda Dibbs and Shannon Brooks defeated Erin Filbrant and Victoria Marchant, 8-2, and the team of Kristen Laird and Annie Egan won their match against Claire McNulty and Georgia Lammers, 8-6.

In other Ohio Valley Conference women’s tennis action, the Murray State Racers will take on North Alabama at noon his Wednesday at Kenlake-Aurora, KY.

The Southeast Missouri State Redhawks will face Arkansas State at 1 p.m. next Saturday in Jonesboro, Ark.,

The Tennessee State Tigers will open their season on Saturday, March 17, as they take on OVC rival Morehead State in Morehead, KY. Game time has not been announced.

Austin Peay will take on Samford University on Friday in Birmingham, Ala. Game time has not been announced

Morehead State’s next match will at 1 p.m. on Saturday against Marshall University at Huntington, W.VA.

Eastern Kentucky will be facing Butler at 2 p.m. this Friday in Indianapolis, Ind.

Jacksonville State will take on Southern Missouri at noon on Saturday at the Southern Missouri Spring Invite.

Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville will take on Bradley at 1 p.m. on Saturday in Peoria.

Tennessee-Martin will take on the University of Evansville at 6 p.m. on Saturday in Evansville, Ind.
