City Council to have special meeting today

The Charleston city council will have a special meeting to vote on insurance issues at 5 p.m. on today at City Hall.

Mayor John Inyart said the council will vote on approving separate insurance companies for city employees’ health, dental, vision and life insurance policies.

Inyart said the council examined three or four different

companies for health insurance, but ultimately decided on Blue Cross Blue Shield as the final insurance to be voted upon.

“We did price it out,” he said. “It came back as the most economical.”

Inyart said city employees pay a portion of their insurance costs, and the city pays the remaining costs.

“It’s a shared cost between employee and the city,” he said.
