Classes relocated because of flooding

A biological sciences class had to relocate to the second floor of the Biological Sciences Building on Tuesday after the storm caused a leak in the basement.

At 9:45 a.m., water came from the handicap ramp next to the annex and into the south part of the building.

Roger Hudson, the day foreman from Facilities, Planning and Management, said the water built up at the door to about 8 inches, and leaked under the door and into the hallway.

Room 1080 collected the most water.

“It doesn’t take long to get quite a bit of water inside,” Hudson said.

While this is the first time this has happened this year, this is not a rare occurrence in the Biological Sciences Building.

“It usually gets inside (Room 1080),” Hudson said. “It happened about a year ago too.”

The water was cleaned up by 10:45 a.m.

“We just get a call and make our way over to clean it up,” Hudson said. “It can’t be helped, because of the size of the drain and the slope of the ramp; there’s not much we can do to stop it when it starts to pour.”
