Eastern student Ryan Mazgay, 20, was pronounced dead at 2:56 a.m. Wednesday.

He was struck by a train in Lombard, Ill., the Dupage County Coroner’s office said.

According to the Chicago Breaking News Center website, a Union Pacific freight train struck a pedestrian at about 2 a.m. on Wednesday in Lombard, though no age or gender was specified.

Mazgay was from Lombard Ill. and graduated from Willowbrook High School in Villa Park, Ill. in 2008.

Mazgay was enrolled for the 2010 Fall semester at Eastern.

While at Eastern, Mazgay was a founding father of Delta Chi.

“Even when he wasn’t at school he tried to help out and do what he could for the fraternity,” said Joe Crouch, a member of Delta Chi. “He knew a lot of people.”

The Lombard Police Department did not have a statement Wednesday.
