Center christening new home

A local organization will hold an open house at its new location Tuesday.

The Women’s Advocacy Council will host an open house in the new Women’s Resource Center at 4 p.m. The center has moved from its original place in the Martin Luther King Jr. University Union to the basement of Stevenson Hall.

The Women’s Advocacy Council holds its meetings at the Women’s Resource Center. The center is also where people can find reading materials or other resources concerning women.

The Women’s Center moved because of renovations in the Union.

“They put an elevator where our center used to be,” Melanie Mills, professor in the speech communication department and coordinator of the Women’s Advocacy Council, said Monday.

Mills also mentioned that the open house will be very casual.

“We just want people to come out and see our new place,” she commented.

The Women’s Advocacy Council sponsors many speakers and events promoting overall equity around campus, Mills said.

March is Women’s History and Awareness Month. Mills mentioned that the council has many activities planned to celebrate this time, and the open house is a good way to bring in the month.

“We now have signs out in front of Stevenson,” she said. “We’re trying to show people where and who we are.”

Free refreshments will also be provided at the open house.
