EIU Dancers to perform this weekend

The EIU Dancers will hold its annual spring concert, titled “Music in Motion,” this Saturday and Sunday.

Each concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Dvorak Concert Hall at the Doudna Fine Arts Center and will last about two hours.

The concert will feature traditional forms of modern, ballet, tap and jazz dance to varied musical artists such as Enigma, Janet Jackson, Cindy Lauper, U2 and Garbage.

The performance will also include selections from “Footloose,” “Les Miserables” and “My Fair Lady,” a press release said.

The concert has taken place every spring since 1932.

“This concert is composed of many pieces prepared by the student dancers along with the help of Jeanna McFarland and myself,” Nancy Nordtvedt, co-director of the EIU Dancers, said Thursday. “It only seems to improve with each year.”

The EIU Dancers is a student organization sponsored by the Eastern Department of Physical Education and under the direction of Jeanna McFarland, an assistant physical education professor, and Nordtvedt, a physical education instructor.

The EIU Dancers consist of about 30 students, both female and male, Nordtvedt said.

Admission is free and open to the public.
