RHA creates new committee for publicity

A new committee was created by the Residence Hall Association Thursday to help get the word out about RHA events.

The Committee of Publicity and Involvement will focus specifically with publicizing RHA events, creating a newsletter and increasing involvement in both the RHA and its committees.

Another goal of the committee will be to get Greek Court more involved in the RHA.

“We want to make sure that everyone is aware of special events,” RHA President Kevin Leverence said at Thursday’s meeting.

He also hopes this process of campus involvement will change the relationship between University Court and Greek Court.

The RHA’s Intramural Committee has just introduced two new competitive sports for the residence halls. The additions are indoor kick ball and ultimate frisbee. The date for competition to begin is unknown, but members hope to begin competing in these sports soon.

In other business, this year’s Kids’ Weekend, which is sponsored by the RHA, will work with the theme, “Little Wizards at EIU.” The theme is meant to be inspired by Harry Potter, RHA members said.

A decision was also made to change the Little People’s Weekend to Kids’ Weekend since it is geared toward kids. The RHA Executive Board was also concerned about the previous title being offensive, Leverence said. The event is scheduled to take place this year on April 19 and 20.
