Informational teaches students how to earn some extra cash

In the spirit of Financial Aid Month, the Student Senate is sponsoring an informational tonight on how students can grab some free bucks for college.

The forum will be held at 7 p.m. in the Kansas Room of the Martin Luther King Jr. Univeristy Union.

Jone Zieren, director of financial aid; Sue Harvey, director of academic records; and a representative from the student billing office will be at the forum to answer students’ questions about financial aid and scholarships, said Jessica Catto, senate member and organizer of the event.

“You can get scholarship information, financial aid information and free money information,” Catto said.

Catto said students can get help on filling out their Federal Application For Student Aid form and apply for the Student Government’s scholarship search program, a program in which a Student Government member will search school records for scholarships a student is eligible to receive.

“We’re going to tell (students) what the application process is and give students other options for financial aid besides federal financial aid, like private scholarships,” Zieren said.

However, Zieren said much of the meeting will consist of students being able to talk to her.

“Hopefully, we’ll be able to answer some of the questions and concerns of students,” Zieren said.

This is the first time such an event has been scheduled.
