Erwin, who will return to the News as th editorial/opinion editor, previosuly reared his head as Verge and Online editor as well as two years as a copyeditor. In addition to his duties with the News Erwin will return to Where It's @ Magazine as editor in chief.

Matthew Meinheit made the jump from sports to news as he will become associate news editor for the Daily Eastern News this fall.

Matt Stevens joined the Daily Eastern News as a freshman and was rewarded for his efforts with an ICPA award for sports writing as well as the associate sports editor position.

While the Daily Eastern News Online regularly attempts to bring loyal readers all the news that's fit to print (and a good chunk that isn't), summer is here and the usually emaciated DEN staff has been gutted.

Mcauliffe will return as photo editor after a summer in which he traveled to South Africa, won a dodgeball tournament and traveled North America by train.

Good afternoon. Like the true, loyal Eastern Illinois University alum I am, I have tried several times this summer to read the current events of the campus through the DEN Online. I have relied on this medium before during the school year and have enjoyed being able to read some of the headlines prior to seeing them in black and white.

Tuition increases are always depressing because of the hopelessness involved. Unlike other facets of our wondrous capitalistic economy where we can bargain shop or learn to live without, a tuition increase is something that many of us feel as though we must pay. Geography often makes price comparison a moot point, and though education isn't in the same ballpark of necessities as food, rent or utilities, it's considered an item needed in order to achieve basic goals in life. You might believe that since 'the pursuit of happiness' is an ideal that each American is supposedly entitled to, we wouldn't allow a predicament that causes us to be depressed or to feel hopeless exist.
