The former AMC CLASSIC Mattoon 10, which closed in August, is aiming to reopen in November under the VIP Cinemas brand, according to VIP Cinemas Director of Operations Josh Ward.
VIP Cinemas is a family-owned and operated movie theater company with 17 theaters, mostly found in the Midwest.
In Illinois, the company currently operates theaters in Carbondale, Lincoln, Macomb, Moline, Morton, Ottawa and Quincy.
“We’re excited to bring back life to a theater that is a huge part of the community,” said Ward.
VIP Cinemas will show movies as early as 10 a.m. with later showings on weekends, according to its press release.
Before reopening, the company is focusing on repairs, like replacing projection and audio equipment in all 10 theaters.
Once the Mattoon theater reopens, Ward said the company will continue repairs and updates as they deem necessary. One of these plans includes replacing the chairs in each theater beginning in mid-to-late 2026.
The theater will also introduce newer, hotter food options like chicken tenders, pizza and hot dogs, per the press release.
