
The week ahead in Charleston includes a mix of live music and community programming leading into the final days of June.
Charleston Community Band Concert
The Charleston Community Band will perform Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the Daum Amphitheater in Kiwanis Park as part of the city’s Concerts in the Park series. The free, family-friendly concerts have taken place every Thursday since May 29 and will continue until July 10, except on July 3. The Charleston Parks and Recreation Department hosts the series that features local and regional musicians. Kiwanis Park is located at the corner of Division St & Jackson Ave.
Farmers Market (Wednesday and Saturday)
At the Courthouse Square, there will be a farmers market on Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. hosted by the Charleston Area Chamber of Commerce. The event will feature local vendors and live music. There will be a farmers’ market every Wednesday until September 24. Then Saturday, there will be another one from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. There will be one every Saturday until September 20. The Courthouse Square is located at 651 Jackson Ave.
Story Time at the Park
At the Charleston Carnegie Public Library, a toddler storytime called Tiny Tales is scheduled for Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. The 30-minute session in the Rabbit Hole room is aimed at kids ages 18 to 36 months and includes stories, songs, and early learning activities. Caregivers are expected to stay with their children.
On Thursday at 3:30 p.m., the library will host a general storytime session called Hello Summer! in the Rabbit Hole room. It’s open to children of all ages and doesn’t require registration. The program includes books, music, and interactive activities to mark the beginning of the summer season.
Adults can pick up a Shrinky Dinks Take & Make kit at the library any time between June 25 and July 1. The kits are free and available at the information desk while supplies last. Participants can complete the craft at home as part of the library’s summer programming. The Charleston Carnegie Public Library is located at 712 Sixth St.
CISCO Presents: Shrek The Musical
The Doudna Fine Arts Center will host a performance of Shrek The Musical Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. The production is presented by the Charleston Incharge Summer Community Organization (CISCO) and features local cast members. Tickets range from $13 to $23. The Doudna Fine Arts Center is located at 1860 7th St.
