U.S. Marshals Service apprehend former CPD officer on county’s most wanted list

A former Charleston Police Department officer who was on the Coles County Sheriff Department’s top 10 most wanted list following charges of one count of child pornography and two counts of criminal sexual assault was found and arrested in Arizona.
David N. Iwaniw, 42, had been on the run since July 21, 2014, before he was located members of the United States Marshals Service Arizona Wanted Violent Offender Task Force and the United States Marshals Service Investigative Liaison.
Iwaniw was brought to Coles County on Jan. 28.
According to a Feb. 21, 2013 story in the Daily Eastern News, Iwaniw was arrested after state police investigated him for allegedly sexually assaulting a 17-year-old.
