The Eastern football team came up short Saturday night against Illinois State in the 109th Mid-America Classic at O’Brien Field.

The Redbirds took a lead with 1:54 remaining in the game and held on to get the win.

Eastern scored its touchdowns on a pass from quarterback Otto Kuhns to Robbie Lofton, a blocked punt return from DeAirious Smith and a 2-yard run from Harrison Bey-Buie.

The Panthers will begin conference play next weekend on the road against Tennessee Tech.
