Column: Trump losing election is a relief

Gillian Eubanks

Now that Donald Trump is voted out of office, I feel safe to say exactly how I feel. I am glad we finally got out of that “Black Mirror” episode. Despite the fact we still have to put up with the man until January, I could not be more ecstatic about the fact that he is finally out.

Freddy Kruger has nothing on that man, for being the worst nightmare to ever experience. I am so proud of everyone who got out and voted for Joe Biden. We weren’t just voting for a new president, but for change. The fact that we will no longer have to worry about what is going to come out of Trump’s mouth, or what crazy idea he’s going to concoct in his two brain-celled mind, is a relief.

Also, can we just take a moment to celebrate a huge step in women’s history and in Black history? Kamala Harris, the new vice president of the United States, will change the possibilities in our nation for all females. We are one step closer at taking over the world, ladies. Let’s pat ourselves on the back and remember that we are stronger than these men ever could’ve imagined.

The way that our nation came together this election shows a glimmer of hope for the future success for our people. I truly believe that as the years go on, our country will see major changes and we will lean more into a progressive future. A future that is worth waiting for.

I say this because I believe that many of our citizens have woken up to the wrongdoings in our systems. They have seen the inequalities and they have had enough of it. I know that I have had enough of it. I am ready to push for reform along with everyone else.

Also, I think it is quite hilarious to see how upset Trump and his supporters are over the loss. The collective denial that is occurring is concerning. Trump completely lost that election, no matter how you look at it. Voters were able to turn states that are commonly red to blue. That is unheard of. All I have to say to Trump and his supporters at this point is; boo hoo, cry me a river, build a bridge, and get over it.

Today, I am proud of you, America.
