Editor’s note: There was a typo in the U.S. Senator for Illinois’s 15th District subheadline that was corrected at 9:37 a.m. Friday. The News regrets this error.

State’s Attorney

The editorial board of The Daily Eastern News endorses Jesse Danley for the office of State’s Attorney because he has shown since his appointment to the position that he is capable to perform the necessary duties for the office and shows an interest in doing what is best for the safety of the Coles County community. Both candidates show the capability to perform well in the position, but we believe Danley’s skillset is more aligned to the position.

Illinois 55th State Senator

The editorial board of The Daily Eastern News has chosen to endorse Cynthia Given because her values align with the majority opinion of Eastern students. Her campaign focuses on bipartisan representation, which is refreshing in this election cycle and would better serve the district and ensure the issues being fought for are not politically biased but serve everyone’s needs.

110th State Representative

The editorial board of The Daily Eastern News endorses Kody Czerwonka because of his determination to place term limits on Illinois lawmakers. Czerwonka shows a vested interest in protecting the community he would serve and takes things like the pandemic seriously in situations his opponent does not.

U.S. Senator for Illinois’s 15th District

The editorial board of The Daily Eastern News is endorsing Erika Weaver because we believe she will focus on issues related to higher education and concerns that impact the entire district. Her experience in law and education would serve the district well.
