Editorial: Trump keeps lying as election day draws near

Staff Editorial

As election day gets closer and closer, President Donald Trump is busy holding rallies and campaigning.

These rallies have been full of lies and false statements from Trump, which may not come as a surprise to people who have been following his rallies and campaign events for the last four years.

Over the weekend, Trump pulled out some of his favorite lies from over the years, and also displayed some newer ones for his mostly maskless followers in attendance.

Luckily, some fact checkers from The Associated Press broke down many of his comments from the weekend rallies.

He played one of his favorite hits, “Mexico is paying for the wall,” at his rally in New Hampshire. The AP once again proved that this is false. The Mexican government has been adament that they will not contribute to a border wall, and it is in fact the American taxpayers who are paying.

Also in New Hampshire, Trump pushed his baseless claims that voter fraud is high with mail-in ballots, saying that Nevada does not even require signature checks.

This is of course untrue. Nevada requires signature checks for all ballots.

He also continued to push falsehoods about COVID-19, claiming that “we’re rounding the turn” and the virus is “going away.”

In fact, the U.S. set a new record for daily cases on Oct. 23 and the virus is showing no signs of slowing down.

We at The Daily Eastern News are not surprised by Trump’s lies, but are disappointed that people keep falling for them.

He says the same thing again and again, but that does not make it true. Frankly, America cannot take four more years of Trump’s lies.
