No injuries reported at structure fire

A structure fire caused by brush fire close to the building that got out of control began around 4:40 p.m. on September 24 at 624 W State Street.

When crews arrived on scene they found heavy fire and smoke coming from a Quonset hut storage facility and immediately began a defensive operation from the exterior of the structure, according to a press release provided by the Charleston Fire Department.

A second alarm was called in order to bring additional manpower to the scene.

The crews were able to contain the fire in around 45 minutes.

Crews brought in backhoes to tear down portions of the building that were hot spots.

No one was injured in the fire.

Crews with the assisting departments were still on the scene at 8 p.m. Thursday night.

CFD was assisted by Mattoon Fire Department, Lincoln Fire Protection District, Charleston Police Department, City of Charleston Building Department, City of Charleston Public Works, Coles-Moultrie 911 and The American Red Cross.
