Homecoming Committee meets online

Staff Report

This year’s Homecoming celebrations will be very different than previous years as the COVID-19 pandemic forces group activities to move online.

In previous years, Homecoming week has included events like a pancake breakfast, comedy performances, various competitions, and of course, tailgating and the Homecoming football game.

The 2020 Homecoming Committee will be planning different events for this year to follow safety guidelines put in place by the university.

The committee held a brief meeting Tuesday night to introduce themselves and get contact information for leaders of participating registered student organizations.

This year’s Homecoming will not include the traditional parade, tailgating, or football game, but the committee will be releasing plans for events on their social media in the upcoming week.

Holly Olson, management major and 2020 Homecoming Chair, said that while the committee had events planned, they would not be announced until everything is finalized.

“We don’t have everything in schedule yet right now just because everything has been changing a lot,” Olson said. “We’re working on finalizing it right now so hopefully it will be out by Monday.”

There will be a second meeting to cover Homecoming plans on Tuesday 22 at 9 p.m.
