Eastern shares more details of plans for fall semester

Staff Report

Eastern President David Glassman sent out an email to all students and employees Thursday afternoon that offered a more comprehensive look at Eastern’s plan for classes in the fall.

Eastern’s plan is contingent on Illinois remaining in phase four of the “Restore Illinois” plan. Various health and safety measures will be in place for everyone on campus.

Among the measures is the requirement of “appropriately worn face and mouth coverings” on campus. There will be some exceptions, including inside residence hall rooms and some employee offices. Face coverings are also not required outdoors on evenings and weekends in situations where social distancing can be maintained.

Eastern will provide all students with a cloth mask.

Hybrid classes will be utilized for the fall, mixing in-person and remote instruction. Students who are at a heightened risk for COVID-19 will receive accommodations.

All students living in residence halls will be in single rooms, with no outside visitors allowed. The dining centers will provide meals by carryout.

Also, COVID-19 testing will be available on campus.

There are more details in the email. Eastern will release a guidebook outlining the plans in full. According to the email, the guidebook will be released “very soon.”
