Today is Feb. 17, 2020. Here are the five things happening at Eastern you need to know today.

1. Council on Academic Affairs suspends bylaws

The Council on Academic Affairs voted to suspend all its bylaws at its meeting last week. The CAA’s decision is a result of The Daily Eastern News filing a grievance with the public access counselor at the Illinois’ Attorney General’s office about the CAA’s proposed bylaw change that would make it no longer subject to the Open Meetings Act. 2. Men’s basketball team drops two games

The Eastern men’s basketball team was supposed to have an easy weekend against two of the OVC’s bottom-dwelling teams in Southern Illinois Edwardsville and Tennessee-Martin, instead the Panthers lost both games and fell to 5-9 in conference play. 4. Women’s basketball team goes 1-1 over weekend

The Eastern women’s basketball team split its weekend matches, beating Southern Illinois Edwardsville Thursday, then falling to Tennessee-Martin on Saturday.
