Today is Feb. 6, 2020. Here are the five things happening on Eastern’s campus you need to know today.

1. Men’s basketball team set for battle with 8-2 Eastern Kentucky

The Eastern men’s basketball team (4-6 OVC) is facing a three-game homestead that could make or break its season, beginning with a matchup against Eastern Kentucky (8-2 OVC) Thursday night in Lantz Arena. 2. Eastern lands 38 on National signing day

The Eastern football team signed 38 players, including three quarterbacks, on national signing day Wednesday. Head coach Adam Cushing said the Panthers’ focus for this recruiting class was offensive and defensive line. 3. Women’s basketball team to host struggling Colonels

The Eastern women’s basketball team (6-4 OVC) will host an Eastern Kentucky (2-8 OVC) team that has struggled to just about anything on the basketball court this season. Head coach Matt Bollant however is doing everything he can to make sure his team does not overlook the Colonels Thursday night. Tip-off is at 5:15 in Lantz Arena. 4. Weaver speaks to students at ‘Making an Activist’ event

5. Yeakel elected new Student Senate speaker

The Eastern student senate voted 16-0 to approve senior math major Seth Yeakel as the new Speaker of the Senate at its meeting Wednesday night. Yokel said his goals as speaker are to increase student feedback and increase awareness of the Senate.
