1 dead after structure fire Monday morning

One person has died after a structure fire at 411 N. 4th St. in Charleston Monday morning, according to a Charleston Fire Department press release.

The name of the deceased has not yet been released.

CFD was dispatched to the home at 6:36 a.m.

Upon CFD’s arrival to the home, bystanders confirmed one occupant was able to escape.

Smoke and water damage was found throughout the home, but fire damage was limited to the contents of the home.

The fire appears to be accidental, but the Illinois Fire Marshal’s Office and the Coles County Coroner’s Office are currently investigating the fire.

Crews were on the scene of the fire until 10 a.m. Monday.

Ameren CIPS.
