Booth Library to upgrade online catalog

Staff Report

Booth Library will upgrade the online catalog on July 23, most of the features and functions will remain the same, but new features will be added to improve the catalog.

According to a press release, the upgrade will provide easier access to lists of materials users have checked out, the ability to request materials from I-Share libraries and to renew materials.

The new features include a new search option, an option to “browse alphabetically”. This will allow users to search by author (last name first), by title (beginning or portion of one) or by call number. A list will created beginning with the closest term that matches your search and listing all terms of the type you selected, according to the press release.

Also according to the press release, there will be a new “similar items” feature. When viewing a single bibliographic record, it will show the user other items that are similar to the record, making further research easier.

Responsive web design will make it easier to use the catalog on phones and devices that vary on screen sizes. Also, a large number of new digital versions of public domain sources will be available.
