CAA to vote on revised English course proposals

Staff Report

The council on academic affairs will vote on two revised English course proposals Thursday at 2 p.m. in Room 4440 of the Booth Library.

ENG 1009G, Stories Matter 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and ENG 2011G, World/Multicultural Literatures will be revised.

According to the rationale for ENG 1009G, the first revision is the change in the course number from a 2000-level course to a 1000-level course.

The prerequisites were changed last fall in order to make the literature course open to first-year students, according to the rationale.

“The change in the course number better reflects the level of the course, which can now be taken concurrently with first-year composition courses,” the rationale read.

The course will also be used for the dual enrollment initiative and the themes the course teaches have been updated.

“Therefore, (the English department) believe(s) that these new themes are likely to be more attractive to students who do not major in English,” the rationale read.

The second course, ENG 2011G, is being revised so it can be offered online. It will now “fill a gap in the curriculum” by making it available to student completing general education curriculum, according to the rationale for the course revision.

The CAA will also vote to add course proposals, revised course proposals and revised minor name changes to the agenda.
