Community band playing second Thursday concert

The Charleston Community band plays the theme from “Jack,” which is an old TV show, June 2 during their opening concert at Kiwanis Park. The band will continue to hold concerts at 7:30 for the next five Thursdays.

The second community band concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. at Kiwanis Park.

Some of the upcoming 10 selections being performed include Happy from Despicable me 2, The best of Chicago, and Amazing Grace which focuses on the low brass and the woodwinds in the band.

Close to 300 people attended the previous weeks’ concert, with band director Ginger Stanfield calling it a “great turnout.”

The band consists of 71 musicians.

Community band concerts are free, and guests are encouranged to “bring their own lawn chairs.”
