Women’s golf team finishes in last place at Loyola Invite

The Eastern women’s golf team finished in last place out of 10 teams in the Loyola Fall Invitational at the par-72 Flossmoor Country Club in Flossmoor over the past couple of days.

Sophomore Anne Bahr continued to lead the way for Eastern as her and junior Chloe Wong shot a three-day total of 250, which tied for 33rd place.

Bahr finished with an 11-over, 83 on Tuesday after shooting an 82 and 85, Monday. Wong, on the other hand, bested Bahr in the final round Tuesday after shooting a 10-over 82.

Junior Alex Pickens finished in 48th place overall and shot a total of 259 with her best round coming in the first round.

Pickens shot a 9-over, 81 in round one Monday. She finished with an 88 and a 90 in the final two rounds.

Freshman Katlyn Hasprey and sophomore Hannah Magda finished the tournament with scores of 263 and 265, respectively.

As a team, the Panthers shot their best round of the season Monday, finishing with a 331 overall. Eastern finished the next two rounds with a 343 and a 344.

The Panthers finished 23 strokes behind ninth place Lewis University.

Southern Illinois-Carbondale took the team title after shooting a score of 930. The Salukis started off in first place after round one and stayed there throughout the entire tournament.

Freshman Sun Young Jung continued to pace the Salukis after finishing tied for third place.

Jung shot a 2-over, 74 in round one, 75 in round two then finished with a 9-over 81 in the final round Tuesday.

The Salukis also had two other golfers in the top 10. Senior Mattie Lidner and junior Brooke Cusamano finished sixth and tied for seventh, respectively.

Lidner fired off a 2-over, 74 in round one and a 6-over, 78 in the final round.

The Salukis had two other golfers shoot in the 70’s. Sophomore Hanna Netisingha shot a 4-over, 76 Tuesday in round three. Also, Kristie Yang shot a 5-over, 77 in round one.

Chicago State finished in second place with a team score of 939, which was 21 strokes infront third place Loyola.

The Cougars were led by freshman Rachel Johnson, who placed second for the individuals. Johnson shot three rounds in the 70’s. She fired off a 1-over, 73 in the first round on Monday. She finished the final two rounds with a 5-over, 77 and a 4-over, 76 in the final two rounds.

Johnson was the only Cougar to finish in the top 10.

Host Loyola finished with a team score of 960 for the tournament and finished in third place. Freshman Elayna Bowser finished in seventh place overall and shot a 233 total for the tournament.

Bowser shot two rounds of 5-over, 77 and then shot a 7-over, 79 in round two.

Evansville freshman Kayla Katterhenry won the individual title after shooting 4-over for the tournament. Katterhenry shot two rounds of 2-over, 74 and then fired off an even-par, 72 Tuesday.

Southern Illinois sophomore Alice Ho finished in fifth place after shooting a 15-over, 231 for the tournament. Loyola sophomore Jessie Staed finished in ninth with an 18-over, 234, rounding out the top 10.

Eastern will have a week off before heading to the Butler Invitational in two weeks.
