The Board of Trustees will vote Friday on several expenditures for the university, the largest one being $600,000 toward periodicals and books for Booth Library.
The board is also scheduled to approve a budget for fiscal year 2016, which begins July 1, and submit a budget for fiscal year 2017. Both budgets will be brought up by addendum during the meeting.
Changes to Eastern’s non-indentured reserve funds are on the agenda as well, including a $5,000 increase in student and staff programs and services, bringing the total up to $125,000.
Additionally, the university is requesting approval to abandon two capital projects, with the remaining money for those projects going to Eastern’s income fund.
The projects include $2 million for Honors College renovations and $100,000 designated to grounds shop.
Board approval is required for these changes to Eastern’s reserves according to university guidelines.
The purchase of periodicals and books for Booth Library would be from EBSCO Industries, Inc. According to the item’s description, the purchase would primarily be of periodicals, which contain the most current subject matter available and are needed to support student and faculty discipline.
This purchase would be for fiscal year 2016.
Another expenditure up for approval Friday is $540,000 for a two-year contract renewal of South Central FS Inc., the company that supplies and delivers gasoline for university vehicles.
The board will vote on spending $500,000 for telephone service for the next year from Consolidated Communications, Inc.
Other proposed expenditures for Booth Library include $350,000 for a one-year membership to the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries, which provides access to resources from libraries statewide, and $300,000 for books in fiscal year 2016.
To coordinate with the Illinois Open Meetings Act, the board will hear recommendations from the Board Counsel on which executive session minutes can be made available for public inspection.
The board will meet at 1 p.m. Friday in the University Ballroom of the Martin Luther King Jr. University Union.
