Tennis team prepares to break 8-game losing streak

A tough non-conference schedule continues Sunday when the Eastern men’s tennis team travels to northwest Ohio for a matchup against Toledo.

The Panthers come in on a eight-game losing streak to start their 2015 season, which includes losses against three Big Ten schools.

Eastern looks to pick-up a couple non-conference game victories before the conference season starts. The Panthers have two more games before they start their conference games.

“It’s early in the season and it’s not about where you start but where you finish. Our team still has full confidence about this year,” freshman Grant Reiman said

Eastern will be in the same situation as they take on Toledo at a neutral site situation on Sunday.

“We are just going to go out there and try to be more aggressive in how we play and in our opportunities we will get,” Eastern coach Eric Stark said.

The Rockets come in 7-5 on the season and have won six out of their last eight matches to start their season.

Last season, Toledo went 9-18 with an appearance in the Mid-American Conference tournament.

It’s been over 10 years since the last time Toledo and the Panthers have faced off. They last met up on February 21, 2003 in a 4-3 loss to the Rockets.

The match Sunday in Champaign against Toledo at the Atkins Tennis Center will start at 9 a.m.
