Biennial winners will be announced on Sunday

The Tarble Fine Arts Center will present the winners of their 20th Biennial Drawing and Watercolor exhibition at a public reception Sunday.

The exhibition begins Saturday and will continue through Jan. 11.

The exhibition features a total of 121 pieces done by 52 artists.  These pieces include works done on paper within the last two years using water-based painting media, drawing media, collage or any combination of those medias.

Many pieces are representational landscapes, cityscapes, figure studies and still lifes.

William Cogner, a retired Eastern professor, was the juror of the works.  Cogner selected 43 pieces by 30 artists to be displayed for the exhibition.

Various different awards will be presented at the reception including the Newton E. Tarble Memorial Best-Of-Show Purchase Award, Ronchetti Art Acquisition Fund Purchase Award and Barbara Bishop Werden Memorial Best Traditional Watercolor Merit Award.

The Coles County Arts Council sponsors other awards including the Eastern Alumni Association, Roc’s Blackfront, What’s Cookin’, Tarble membership contributions and the Tarble Endowment Fund.

The awards being presented make up a total of $4,750.

The reception will take place from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday.  Awards will be presented at 2:30 p.m.  The public is invited to attend the reception free of charge.
