Faculty Senate meeting set to review constitution, bylaws

The Faculty Senate will be meeting at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Witter’s Conference Room of Booth Library to review the constitution and bylaws.

Grant Sterling, the chair of Faculty Senate, said it is not unusual to have a meeting during the summer – as it is required by law to meet once.

“We never have quorum, though,” he said.

A bulk of the meeting will be taken with reviewing changes to the constitutions and bylaws.

Sterling said pretty much everything in each were up for at least a slight change or revision.

One of the bylaws in particular would be reviewed, which refers to committee elections.

Sterling said some aspects, such as if a member resigns from a committee, were unclear.

The revisions hope to clarify these aspects. However, the meeting is not one where any voting will be happening, Sterling said.

“I don’t expect there to be any official business,” he said.

Instead, it will be more of a review of the changes so that the members of the senate are aware when it does come time to vote.

The senate will also look at the proposed academic calendar, as well as setting an agenda for the fall semester. The next senate meeting is scheduled for Aug. 26, the first Tuesday of the new semester.
