The O’Brien Stadium track is torn up in order for a new rock foundation with drainage tile to be placed beneath the rubber surface. The new base should move moisture away from the track and keep the surface from bubbling as it has in previous years. The bubbles were caused by trapped water vapor that would rise up from below the track’s surface when the temperature increased. The $3.2 million project was contracted out to Hellas Sports Construction and has a target completion date of Aug. 8.
