Students ‘RelaXXX’ at fair

Students were able to “RelaXXX” at Pride’s Sex Positive Fair.

Pride, a recognized student organization since 1992, organized the second-annual Sex Positive Fair Monday.

Fair attendees had the opportunity to learn, express and view the positive aspects of sex. Lisa Taylor, a sex educator for the school of family consumer sciences and presenter at the event, said sexual intercourse and masturbation is good for people.

“Sex is for everyone regardless of age, gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, physical ability and religion. It’s for everybody,” said Taylor. “And when sex is practiced on a safe and respectful manner, sex is good for us.”

Taylor also came up with a list of 25 ways of why sex is good for people. The audience responded enthusiastically by clapping after every item on the list was read.

“I teach sex education and I have a lot of old sex-ed textbooks,” Taylor said. “I probably have about 12 and so I went through them, and I knew about the benefits of masturbation because I talk about that specifically, but I did a little more to pull together how it benefits a couple.”

The event was full of different sex presentations, each one showing the pros and cons of certain sexual activities.

Some of the presentations of the event were: The Ins and outs of Anal Sex, Oral Sex, Sex Positivity Defined and What’s Good Sex.

The audience had the opportunity to participate in any presentation. Anything related to sex was exposed, from how to correctly put a condom on or to simply share a sex story or fantasy.

William Kendall, the organizer of the event, explained that the activities were ideas of the members of Pride and of previous sex fairs at other universities.

“I came up with some of the ideas,” Kendall said. “Some ideas we got from sex positive fairs that have happened at other universities in other places around the country.”

In comparison to last year, this Sex Positive Fair was different in that the activities were more personalized.

Sean Callihan, a member of Pride, said the structure and message of the event was the same; the only thing that changed was the way the presentations were delivered.

“The presentations are slightly different, people get to personalize a little more because, like all groups, our members changed each year so they get to display who they are, so it’s different but the same concept, the same message,” Callihan said.
