Faye Cobble questionnaire

Faye Cobble is running for Charleston City Council.

What relevant former jobs have you held?

I’ve been a member of the Parks and Recreation Board for 12 years (a volunteer position.

Why are you qualified to be on the city council?

I am probably the least qualified in comparison to the other candidates, other than my years on the Recreation board.

What minor changes would you like to make to the city?

I would make it easier to access city hall by phone. I would also have young people with minor problems with the law (such as party being too loud etc.) clean up trash and litter within the city.

What major changes would you like to make to the city?

The city needs to be more open to getting input from long term and retired employees (of the city). The voice of experience is too often silenced.

What is something you would like to build on in the city?

A medical clinic that could handle those little emergencies that don’t quite qualify for the hospital, however is quite impossible to “get an appointment” for.

What is something that definitely needs to be changed immediately?

To resolve and accomplish whatever needs to be done in regards to the road that runs past Adams Funeral Home.

One thing you would like people to know about you …

I have a large family and therefore I have always had children of all ages at our house.

Any additional comments or statements about you or any of your platforms …

While I have written on my biography (for the forums) that my special interests are the Parks and Recreation Department (and north side of Charleston), I realize that one’s priorities will change from day to day. That will happen with city government and I will be very open with that.

What are your feelings on the following issues:

Widening 4th Street …

As my experience is with the Recreation Department, I am not informed as to why they feel a need to do this, or even whose original idea it was. Unless someone can convince me that it is necessary to fix the streets and the bridge; that’s it!

Bar entry age …

Leave it as it is. However, as another candidate has pointed out young adults really do need places to socialize.

Condition of the city …

The condition of the city is getting better all the time, but the trash and litter bothers me a great deal.

The relationship between the city and the university …

I am not in a position to know a lot about this. However, I know that much of the bad feelings have been caused by all the wild parties … which were pretty scary for some of the older citizens.

Bringing big corporations (such as Wal-Mart, Denny’s) to the city …

Wal-Mart certainly carries a lot of necessities for homes and businesses, but it is a shame to put small business folks out of business.
