Losing is not an option for Eastern

Rojek: So now in one week the team will either be in the playoffs or the season will be over already, so where do you go from here heading into these last two games?

Wunder: Well, as I told the team earlier, we’re in a situation where our backs are to the wall. We have to win in order to be playing next Tuesday and it comes down to carrying over what we did on Saturday against Southeast Missouri into these last two home games.

Rojek: What do you think it was, starting out at Murray with a win and carrying into this weekend against SEMO, that the team has been able to do to continue to roll that over?

Wunder: I think defensively we’ve played a little bit better and I think offensively we’ve played better together as a team and I think when you make shots and put the ball in the basket, everything looks good.

Rojek: In terms of what they’ve been doing at practice, how do you get that to carry over every game and get that consistency going in every game?

Wunder: Well, I think right now they’re playing with a little bit of confidence. Obviously they see they’ve had some success in these last few games plus the fact that I think one of the things we’ve done in the last three games is that we’ve played very hard and I don’t think we’ve played that hard for a long time. When you play hard, good things happen.

Rojek: Now coming into Thursday’s game, playing a team you’re hoping to bump out of the playoffs, what kind of approach do you go for?

Wunder: Morehead State is playing very, very well right now. Obviously they’re the team we’re going to try to catch and from that stand point we have to win on Thursday night. If we don’t win Thursday night we have no chance to go to the tournament. Losing is not an option for us right now.

Rojek: And then coming in Saturday, what will be based off of Thursday’s outcome?

Wunder: Regardless of what happens Thursday, I think it’s senior night and we want to finish the season strong and play well against a good Eastern Kentucky team.

Rojek: As far as the seniors go, what are you hoping they get out of these last two games, leaving behind something when they graduate?

Wunder: I know they probably have not had the kind of success they would have liked to have had in their careers here at Eastern. Hopefully we can finish on a strong note so they can remember these last few weeks of the season as opposed to the last four years.

Rojek: Coming back and playing at home for these last two games, it’s nice to be off the road, but there’s also that first conference win at home.

Wunder: Yeah, it would be a good time to start getting a couple of wins at Lantz, that’s for sure. Obviously I think, even though we haven’t necessarily won a lot of games at Lantz this year, it’s always nice to be at home and in front of your crowd and your fans and I know the team really appreciates the support they get at home. It makes them play a little bit harder.
