Rec center open for use

Students, faculty, and members of the community can access the Student Recreation Center during the summer months.

Students enrolled in classes during the summer 2016 semester will have access to the SRC covered by their student fees. Members of the community can purchase a summer membership for $50 or pay $20 for a single month membership.

Jasmin Conyers, a senior sociology major and a building coordinator for the SRC, said summer camps that visit Eastern would have access to the SRC after they sign a waiver because of the age restrictions the facility has.

“Typically, if it’s a camp, they can use the facility if they sign waivers only because they’re younger and we don’t allow anybody under the age of 18 access unless they sign waivers,” Conyers said.

Individuals with summer memberships will also have the opportunity to participate in intramural sports. The intramural tournaments include double and single participant sports. The singles tournaments include; basketball free throws, tennis, table tennis, racquetball, and disc golf. The beanbag toss game is the only doubles tournament members have to choose from.

The deadlines for intramural sign-up are the following; basketball free throws, June 14th; tennis, June 21st; table tennis, June 28th; racquetball, July 5th; beanbag toss, July 12th; and disc golf, July 19th.

For more information on the intramural sports tournaments can call their office at 217-582-7000.

The SRC opened its doors for the summer on May 16th and Conyer, who greets every member of the SRC at the door, said she sees about 20 members a day.

The summer hours for the SRC are Monday through Friday from 7am to 7pm. On Saturday and Sunday, the SRC is open from 12pm to 4pm. A membership for the entire summer is $50 and a membership for a month is $20.
