Police arrested a driver suspected in the hit-and-run incident that took place near the intersection of Fourth Street and Grant Avenue on Sept. 21.

The Charleston Police Department have charged Jose Garcia-Cardiel with leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in death or great bodily harm on Sept. 26 after officers were alerted to a vehicle matching the description of the vehicle in a photo that was released to the Charleston Police Department’s Facebook page after the incident from Marty’s, according to a press release.

Garcia-Cardiel was taken to the Coles County Safety and Detention Center.

Alexandria Ward, a special education major, was hit by the truck. Her condition has not been released.
